Our research
People with cerebral palsy (CP) are less physically active than people without disabilities. They are at risk for cardiometabolic and other diseases related to physical inactivity. In addition, the accessibility to physical activities is limited. Therefore, our research addresses people with CP over the lifespan. We are interested in active participation in physical activity and exercise for children, adolescents, and adults with CP.
As the motor ability varies in CP, and all people have different preferences and motivations, it is challenging but necessary to provide individualized interventions. One particular focus is on children and adolescents who are non-ambulant. We analyze data from training exercise tests and interviews to increase knowledge in this area.
Aims
-
To enable people with disabilities to participate in physical activity.
-
To enable people with disabilities to be physically active and exercise according to their preferences.
Impact
People with disabilities have the same right to be physically active and exercise like other people. More knowledge in this area will help society provide the proper support for this patient group.
How our research contributes to CoPARLU
Physical activity for people with different health issues or disabilities is an important research area. A research network is necessary to consider various aspects.
